R3-T7 (Sneak Preview): Overview

R3-T7 action figure Power of the Jedi front

R3-T7 is seen loitering around the streets of Coruscant in the entertainment district shortly before Obi-Wan and Anakin apprehend Zam Wesell in The Attack of the Clones. The R3-T7 figure is an odd choice of droid to release as a sneak preview action figure being such an obscure character, but I suppose that such red herrings do keep fans guessing as to which early release figures may or may not be important characters. Similar in this respect to the R3-T7 figure was the release of the Battle Droid with Stap figure prior to The Phantom Menace coming out in the cinemas.

I don't have the lightning effect which fits over the Power of the Jedi R3-T7 action figure. I'm not sure of the rationale behind this accessory, perhaps at some point it might have been intended that the astromech was going to be hit by Wesell's crashing Speeder. Beyond this I can't see how the accessory makes any sense within the context of the movie. It makes more sense within the context of Wookieepedia's backstory: see here. The question remains as to whether the backstory was written to explain the R3-T7 figure's accessory or whether the accessory was produced with the backstory in mind.

This yellow R3-T7 astromech droid action figure from The Attack of the Clones is unusual in that his domed head is transparent so you can actually see the mechanics in there. It's quite a novel feature, and I can't think of another astromech which has this, although both the 30th Anniversary Collection LIN droid and also the Disney Star Tours droid RX-24 figures also have transparent parts.

Other Power of the Jedi Action Figures

All Star Wars action figures, vehicles, collectibles and Star Wars toys shown on this website are the 3.75 inch scale and from my own private Star Wars collection unless otherwise stated. Where possible original vintage accessories have been used but in some instances I have placed Kenner Star Wars figures with either reproduction weapons and accessories or for Hasbro figures close approximations have been used. This is mostly the case for modern Star Wars lightsabers where the correct item can be very difficult to identify on some ocassions. Vintage Star Wars action figures are shown with their original weapon or accessory when I have them. When a vintage Kenner action figure is shown with an accessory which is not original I have tried to point this out where possible.

All of the Star Wars action figures shown were purchased second hand, usually incomplete, and in bulk. They have been reunited with their original weapons and accessories where we could get hold of them.
